Check it out!

Preserving your own food is something our ancestors did down through the ages, It was a necessity then, now we have whatever foods we want at the tip of our fingers at the grocery store. It doesn’t matter if its in season or not, its right there for a price.

Preserving Produce

We live in a world where much of it is urban, there may not be room for a garden, we may work outside the home leaving little time to put any fresh  food away for winter. Whatever your situation may be, or whatever season of life you may be in, this piece of the blog is for those who desire to, are able to, and have the time to preserve their own food.

For the season of life when we lived in the country, had lots of kids (lots of help!) we had a huge garden. That was a big part of our summer, picking peas, green beans etc. and canning or freezing food. Growing our own food was a good way to save money, eat good wholesome food and teach the kids how to work!

Now in this season, where we live in town, have only “few” kids,  we go to a farm to pick strawberries, I buy bushels of fruit to can from a farmers market and have a few tomato plants to eat from out back. But I’ve scaled back a lot. And it isn’t as economical if you have to buy your fruits and vegetables to can or freeze. But by canning and freezing it myself I can control the sugar and salt content of our food, therefore making it healthier and it tastes better too!!

So if you want to-
